I apologize for the lengthened period of silence between now and the previous post on "The Call".

I also apologize for the episodic stories which haven't come out yet. The first one is written, and will be getting posted quite soon, so do not forget about it. I've just been having some difficulties regarding a few other endeavors of my own, so production has gone kind of slow. Thanks for your patience and keep coming back!

Did you miss us?

Hello Mythos Fans!
Allow me to introduce myself. Nyarlathotep is the name. For those of you who know Simonere, I am his associate from the U.S.

I know that you have been drooling over this game. Some of you believed it to be dead, but no, i'm here to tell you, Cthulhu is still quite alive. He may be sleeping, but he isn't dead. That being said, let it be known that Simonere and Ninibe Labs are working hard on it. The development is, of course, still in the beta stages, so hang in there.

I know, I know... It seems like such a long time away. Well, not to worry, because there are a few new features coming within the next few weeks that should keep you satisfied until beta testing begins. There will be a new section on the left panel of the main page containing episodic stories serving as previews for the game. I guarantee they will not leave you dissapointed, keep those eyes peeled.

This blog will be updated much more frequently now that I have joined up with the team, so keep coming back to read the stories and discuss the game. Oh, and tell your friends about us too.

Until then, Cthulhu dreams in the city of Rlyeh, awaiting his return.
IA! IA!,

E-mail problems

A strange thing happened two days ago: I sent an e-mail to an alias that I usually use with some friends to talk each other, a sort of mailing list, and unexpectedly the mail server answered some minutes later with a "failure notice":

"I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses. This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.
Sorry, no mailbox here by that name. (#5.1.1)"

Very strange. A short control of mail server configuration didn't reveal any anomaly, the e-mail alias seemed to be correct. I was going to send the message again, knowing sometimes the web simply doesn't work, when my attention was attracted to the dates of the last messages blocked by the antispam of labs@ninibelabs.org. Uncannily the spam completely disappeared from the end of July...Very very strange.
At this point I called the technical assistance and I found that at the the end of July, a new mail server was installed and configured, but no aliases and no e-mail addresses were recreated on it. The result was that for about six months any mail recieved from a @ninibelabs.org address (mainly labs@ninibelabs.org) was stored on the new mail server, but still read on the old one.
Coming back to Cthulhu Fhtagn!, found out the unwilling deceit, I found many messages that I wasn't able to answer. I beg your pardon. I will answer personally to all messages I was able to recover, but if you have written to labs@ninbelabs.org in the last 6-8 months, it's better that you rewrite to me and if you do not receive any answer you can contact my personal e-mail: simonere [at] bls [dot] it

Advertising

Beside the relevant task (making the game of course) we have decided to work on another
one and we're trying to follow it in a steady way: advertising.
Apart from the "Links" page that holds a collection of the so called "friend websites",
in the left-hand menu you'll find a new section, banners, that holds an assortment of
banners promoting Cthulhu Fhtagn!.
Here's an example:

We think that promoting the site this way may be very effective and this also gives you
(the viewers with so many questions) the chance to spread this site around.
In the end this is another possible way for you to help us.

And as usual, keep waiting and see you soon...

51,17 %

Over the last few days I have received some e-mails asking about how to subscribe and begin to play Cthulhu Fhtagn!. It was not just one or two people asking this question. I received sometimes countless e-mails which made me come to this conclusion: something is wrong in the communication on our website.
Therefore we decided to publish on our homepage the updated situation of the progress of our project (you can find it just below the lateral menu).

When the image of the Great Cthulhu is completely colored (and when, of course, the stars are right), Cthulhu will rise from his submerged mansion to... Resume His rule of earth .... Then mankind will become that of the Great Old Ones; free and wild and beyond good and evil, with laws and morals thrown aside and all men shouting and killing and reveling in joy, but most of all... the game can finally begin the beta test stage (that will run at least until the holocaust of ecstasy and freedom).
While you wait with undisclosed impatience the coming of this day, you can find some relief with the previews of the game. We already published, in the appropriate page, the icons of human followers and creatures (all but a couple that are still on the works). Here are just a few examples:

The followers (humans and not) are some of the fundamental features that the game has to offer as well as the places, the arcane sciences, the phobias, the grimoires and the supports. Thanks to them any player can accomplish a number of actions like exploration, research ad combat...
We hear you, we hear you, sooner or later we'll be able to publish some previews about the rules too. Please, keep waiting.

See you soon.

The Crawling Map

After several days we finally managed to put together every single part of the game’s map
("Really??? so…there’s a map in this game?" if you are wondering this, just remember that we're talking about a MMORPG).
We took the separately-developed elements – as witches do in their labs when they prepare some potion of theirs - and we threw them in a big pot to get the game’s map: programming and database, graphics, background and user’s interface.
A virtual mixing and…HAAAAGH!!!! That’s a horror!

Only the strongest ones among us, after having passed a sanity check (if you don't know what a sanity check is, my advice is to play "The Call of Chtulhu"'s Role Playing Game), managed to set their pc's screen free from the monster we created.
"Ok guys, we have to start again from the beginning…". The places' arrangement was too monotonous, the interface uncomfortable and the graphics not exciting at all. I believe it was impossible to make it worse.
Being aware that several, big failures lead - sometimes – to brilliant results, we rolled up our sleeves and started from the beginning with a renewed enthusiasm.
At the moment, the map's correction is almost over and the result, according to us, is satisfying.
We are going to publish a map's preview very soon, and you will also be able to give us your feedbacks.

In the same days when this happend, the web site's home page was renewed.
The image's predominant colours have been changed; the title and the famous HPL's sentence have been inserted.
The background image has been extended until the text sides, as to include the ship that with its lonely pitching seems to witness the incautious crew's terrible end gets by mistake (or by choice?) near the Great Chtulhu’s dwelling (thanks to Loreb for the wonderful interpretation).
This should be the website’s final graphics and layout (the left menu’s links excluded). Feedbacks are welcome.

A final, special thank to those who offered us their help for this game’s realization, and to those who put in their websites a link to a www.cthulhugame.it .

Here we are

Here we are and like it happens to everyone, sooner or later, we’re interrogating ourselves about the fundamental questions that always harass the men: who we are? where do we come from?, where are we going?

In spite of what it could normally seems to be, I find more difficult to talk about the past or the present then to talk about the future. In fact, the future is still in the reign of ideas and it's somehow styled by the mind of the thinker.
On the contrary, it is much more complex to answer in a not banal way to the questions about the past and the present. In this case the knowledge of what it has been is and what it is now seems to be enough to guarantee the precision of the answers.

In my opinion, it's not so easy to answer. That’s why, not to leave for last the most difficult questions, I'll face it now.
So, who are we?

At first, I believe, we are a group of friends. Then we're people who are keen about a lot of things: obviously about Lovecraft's novels and Cthulhu Mythos. Then about videogames, and at last about many other things not strictly inherent to this site. This friendship and these passions, planted in the prolific ground of Ninibelabs (that's where we all are from! You can find the information you need about it here: http://www.ninibelabs.org) have made the birth of the project "Cthulhu Fhtagn!" (Aka "Cthulhugame") possible.
The final goal, the answer to the "where are we going?" question, is the production of a BBMMORPG set in Cthulhu Mythos' universe.

The idea was born about six month ago and the developments of the game rules, the software, the graphics and the user interface are still incomplete. But we think it is time to acquaint who will visit this website and is eager to start to play (I hope a lot of people!) with the advances (and sometimes the regresses) we're making.
Periodically this website will be updated with contents related to the game such us example images previews, extracts of rules, outline contents or articles about Cthulhu Mythos and his Author.
Moreover the updates of this blog will be the leading thread of this process of presentation/creation of the project.
May the stars be right soon!
